1959 Jaguar Mark IX
Details

Jaguar Mark IX saloon, automatic, RHD, matching numbers.

Chassis and bodywork: The chassis is solid, with no signs of rust or previous accident damage. The bodywork is solid without any structural rust. It is known to have been painted in the 1990's, and still looks good but is not 'show quality'.

Interior: The interior is largely original and has some blemishes. Unfortunately the lower front seat bench has been reupholstered in red but doesn't fully colour match. The leather could be refurbished and doesn't need replaced. The door cards are original, the toolboxes are not fitted but come with the car, but no tools included. The woodwork is in very good condition and so is the headlining which has been replaced professionally. A period radio is fitted but doesn't work. All instrument except the clocks are working.

Engine and gearbox: The engine runs smoothly with good oil pressure and no smoke. The gearbox works well having been serviced recently, and the intermediate speed holder is also functional. The exhaust is stainless steel and as new.

Suspension and Brakes: No issues, and the brakes are excellent.

Electrical system: All original, running, with no faults.

History: The car has 5 documented previous owners but little is known of its previous history. The sill plates say that it was first delivered to a London dealer. There are pictures on the internet from the 1980/90s, when it served as a wedding car. The present owner has spoken recently to the previous owner who used the car for many years for his wedding business. He remembers it as a very well running and reliable car and he actually replaced the front seat bench. He sold the car on privately when it need some cosmetic attention. The car was then sold to a Mr Buckingham in Hampshire, who did extensive work to the car including some rust repairs and a full respray, new carpet set and also re-varnished the wood and fitted a new headliner. The braking system and suspension had been stripped and rebuild. It was valued at £12000 in 2001. Mr Buckingham's daughter contacted the present owner as she wanted to use the car for her wedding which was unfortunately not possible but sent some period photos of the car and the family which will come with the extensive file. There is good evidence of regular service work and MoTs over the past 20 to 30 years.

The present owner bought the car from a Mr Dames in Ashbourne in 08/2014, who had bought the car as an investment and kept it mainly dry stored. The car was inspected By Mr Ken Jenkins, Consultant for the Jaguar Enthusiast Club, who subsequently bought and recommissioned the car for the present owner. It was subsequently maintained by Mr David Barnett at Classic Autosports.

It has only been driven sporadically over the past 4 years and has been dry stored in a Carcoon. It has not seen any use in Winter or rain.
